Golden State Valkyries Hit $1B Valuation After One Season

First WNBA franchise to cross ten figures as Bay Area market, Chase Center access, and Warriors infrastructure compress expansion timeline.

The Golden State Valkyries are worth $1 billion, according to CNBC's 2026 franchise valuation survey released this week. The franchise began play in 2025.

No WNBA team has reached that mark before. The Valkyries accomplished it in their second season, a function of Chase Center access, Warriors infrastructure overlap, and a Bay Area sponsorship market that treats the franchise as a portfolio hedge rather than a charity allocation. The next-closest franchise in CNBC's ranking sits below $500 million. The gap is structural, not atmospheric.

The valuation reflects what happens when an expansion franchise launches with existing enterprise scaffolding. The Valkyries share the Warriors' front-office legal, ticketing, and broadcast infrastructure. They inherited corporate hospitality relationships built over a decade of Finals runs. Their sponsor roster includes companies that already had Warriors deals and added the Valkyries as a line item, not a separate negotiation. The Chase Center lease gives them 41 home dates with no venue capex. That operating margin shows up in valuation multiples.

Worth noting: the Warriors paid $50 million for the expansion slot in 2023. At $1 billion today, that's a 20x return in under three years, faster than any major North American sports franchise expansion in the modern era. The Miami Heat needed 15 years to hit a billion. The Carolina Panthers took 22. The Valkyries did it before their first head coach finished a two-year contract.

The figure also reflects WNBA media tailwinds that arrived after the Valkyries committed capital. The league signed an 11-year, $2.2 billion media deal in 2024, tripling prior rights fees. Caitlin Clark's rookie season in 2024 drove record viewership. The 2025 season, the Valkyries' first, averaged 1.2 million viewers per national game, double the prior high. Expansion economics usually mean buying into year three of a growth curve; the Valkyries bought into year one.

The valuation is also a sponsorship signal. The Valkyries' jersey patch deal with Accenture, announced in January, is worth $8 million annually, per two people familiar with terms. That's triple the WNBA average and exceeds several NBA teams' patch deals. Accenture already sponsored the Warriors; adding the Valkyries let them claim the full Bay Area basketball footprint without a competitive bid. Corporate buyers are treating the Valkyries as a gender-neutral hospitality asset, not a cause-marketing experiment.

What to watch: the next expansion window. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has said the league will add two more franchises by 2028. If the Valkyries are worth $1 billion after one season, expansion fees for those slots will start at $100 million, double the Valkyries' entry price. Toronto and Philadelphia ownership groups are already circulating decks. The Valkyries just reset the floor.

The franchise plays its 2026 home opener May 15. Chase Center is sold out through June.

The takeaway
Valkyries' $1B valuation after one season resets WNBA expansion pricing and proves shared infrastructure with an NBA franchise compresses startup risk.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
