Reebok signed UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk to an individual endorsement deal, the company announced Tuesday, marking the first major footwear athlete contract for a female MMA fighter outside the promotion's existing league-wide apparel arrangement.

The deal runs separate from Reebok's $70 million six-year uniform partnership with UFC that launched in 2015. That broader pact pays fighters tiered sponsorship amounts based on tenure and title status—Jedrzejczyk receives approximately $40,000 per fight under the base structure—but restricts independent apparel relationships. The personal endorsement represents additional compensation and signals Reebok's belief that Jedrzejczyk carries individual marketing value beyond her role as a UFC asset.

Jedrzejczyk defends her 115-pound title for the fifth time in March against Jessica Andrade in Brooklyn. She holds the longest active win streak in women's MMA at 13 fights and headlined UFC's $11.1 million gate in Melbourne last November, the promotion's largest Australian event. Women's strawweight and bantamweight bouts now account for 22% of UFC pay-per-view main card slots, up from 8% in 2014, according to CompuBox tracking data.

The signing fits Reebok's broader pivot toward CrossFit, combat sports, and functional training after ceding running and basketball territory to Nike and Adidas. The brand cut $75 million in traditional sport marketing spend in 2016 while doubling investment in UFC integration and individual fighter content. Jedrzejczyk will appear in spring campaign creative alongside Rich Froning and Conor McGregor, whose personal Reebok deal reportedly pays $5 million annually separate from fight-night uniform compensation.

Women's participation in combat training jumped 34% between 2014 and 2016 across U.S. gyms tracked by the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association. Lululemon entered the space in October with a striking-focused training line. Under Armour sponsors strawweight contender Rose Namajunas through its standard athlete roster but has not built creative around her. Nike remains absent from individual MMA endorsements despite signing boxer Claressa Shields to a deal worth a reported $1.8 million over three years.

The financial terms of Jedrzejczyk's Reebok arrangement were not disclosed. Industry comparable: when Ronda Rousey signed with Reebok in 2014 at peak popularity, her deal paid an estimated $3 million over two years plus royalty participation on signature apparel. Jedrzejczyk's Instagram following of 1.6 million trails Rousey's 12.7 million but exceeds every current active UFC female champion except Amanda Nunes.

Reebok's parent company Adidas reported 17% growth in women's training and combat categories in Q4 2016 earnings, the fastest expansion in its portfolio. The company plans 12 new women's-focused MMA gym locations across North America in 2017, each anchored by Reebok product integration and local fighter ambassadors.

Watch whether Reebok extends similar individual deals to bantamweight Amanda Nunes or flyweight contenders as UFC adds the 125-pound women's division later this year. The company's UFC uniform contract expires in 2021, and individual athlete relationships could provide leverage in renegotiation or signal a shift toward boxing's model of independent fighter sponsorships. Jedrzejczyk's next title defense airs on pay-per-view March 4, the first UFC Brooklyn card at Barclays Center.
