Jesse Minter, Joe Brady Lead NFL's Ten New Head Coaches Into 2026 Win Projections

Bucky Brooks rankings put Chargers and Jaguars atop first-year expectations as coordinator-to-HC pipeline accelerates.

Ten NFL franchises handed first-time head coaches the keys for 2026, the largest single-year turnover since 2019. Former scout Bucky Brooks ranked all ten on projected Year One wins, placing Jesse Minter (Chargers) and Joe Brady (Jaguars) ahead of the cohort. The list matters less for its precision than its acknowledgment of what front offices already know: coordinator pedigree no longer guarantees success, but it does guarantee interviews.

Minter arrives in Los Angeles after three seasons coordinating Michigan's defense, including a 2023 national championship run that held five straight opponents under 18 points. The Chargers roster includes Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, and second-year corner Cam Hart—expensive, aging, and underperforming. Brooks' projection assumes Minter extracts value from sunk cost before the front office moves on. Brady's Jacksonville situation offers more upside: Trevor Lawrence on a five-year, $275 million extension signed in June 2024, Travis Etienne entering a contract year, and ownership that just opened a $1.4 billion stadium district. The Jaguars finished 4-13 in 2025. Brady's ceiling is high because the floor was subterranean.

The rest of Brooks' top five includes three coaches inheriting playoff-adjacent rosters and one rebuilding a Rust Belt market. All ten hires share the same structural advantage: they enter during a year when the salary cap jumps $15 million (projected $283 million for 2026) and the league expands postseason rosters by two spots. First-year coaches historically post a 42% win rate; the 2026 class benefits from easier schedules (rotating AFC/NFC pairings favor six of the ten) and more roster flexibility than their predecessors. Three of the ten also inherit offensive coordinators already in place, reducing the risk of system mismatch. The Chargers and Jaguars do not. Both Minter and Brady will name coordinators by mid-February, and those hires will determine whether Brooks' projections hold or collapse.

The Brooks rankings function as a market signal for assistant coaches still taking calls. Offensive coordinator spots under Minter and Brady now carry premium value—agents are pricing those roles into next year's cycle. Defensive coordinator searches under Brady, meanwhile, remain open in Jacksonville, and two candidates have already withdrawn to stay in the college ranks. The Jaguars are paying $9 million annually for Brady; they will pay north of $3 million for his DC. That is not New England money, but it is no longer mid-market. If Brooks is correct and Brady wins early, the coordinator market resets again in 2027.

What to watch: coordinator announcements in Los Angeles and Jacksonville before the February 20 Senior Bowl, where most staffs finalize. Schedule release in mid-May will clarify whether Brooks' projections hold against strength-of-schedule reality. The Chargers open against the Chiefs in Week 1; the Jaguars draw the Texans. Early returns will be loud.

The NFL now replaces one in three head coaches annually, and the coordinator-to-head-coach pipeline runs faster than the college-to-NFL bridge. Brooks ranked ten men who have never called a fourth-quarter timeout in a professional game. By Christmas 2026, half will be planning for Year Two. The other half will be back on someone's staff, or on television, explaining what went wrong.

The takeaway
Jesse Minter and Joe Brady top ten new NFL head coaches for 2026, per Bucky Brooks; coordinator hires by mid-February will test projections.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.
