Vancouver Names The Show as MLB Expansion Partner, Ballpark Developer

City picks local group to chase 31st or 32nd franchise as league eyes $2.4B valuation floor.

Vancouver selected The Show Vancouver as its preferred development partner to pursue a Major League Baseball expansion franchise and build a ballpark, formalizing a bid structure that has been circulating among ownership groups and league offices since late 2024.

The Show Vancouver, a consortium of local real estate and entertainment operators, will lead site selection, stadium financing, and ownership recruitment. The group has not disclosed a proposed ballpark location or construction timeline. Vancouver last held a Major League franchise when the Expos played two series at BC Place in 1991 before relocating to Washington as the Nationals in 2005. The city's Triple-A team, the Canadians, drew 319,000 fans in 2024 across 66 home dates at Nat Bailey Stadium, a 6,413-seat facility built in 1951.

MLB has not formally announced expansion plans but Commissioner Rob Manfred has said repeatedly that 32 teams is the "right number" once the Athletics settle in Las Vegas and the Rays resolve their Tampa stadium situation. The Athletics are scheduled to open a $1.75B ballpark in 2028; the Rays are negotiating a $1.37B facility in St. Petersburg with a targeted 2028 or 2029 opening. League sources expect expansion applications to open in late 2026 or early 2027, with new franchises beginning play between 2030 and 2032. The Mets sold for $2.4B in 2020; expansion fees are expected to exceed that figure, with proceeds distributed equally among existing ownership groups.

The Show Vancouver's primary challenge is assembling a credible ownership syndicate and a financially viable ballpark plan without public funding. British Columbia's provincial government has not committed stadium subsidies. Toronto's Rogers Centre, MLB's only active Canadian venue, underwent a $400M renovation completed in 2024, financed entirely by Rogers Communications. Vancouver's bid will compete with Nashville, which has a $2.1B ballpark proposal and an ownership group that includes sports-finance veterans Dave Stewart and former Cisco CEO John Chambers. Charlotte, Portland, and Salt Lake City have also signaled interest, though none has named a lead developer or secured a stadium site.

The Show Vancouver has not disclosed its ownership roster or stadium financing structure. The group's next milestone is submitting a formal bid when MLB opens the expansion window. Until then, watch for land acquisition announcements, ownership reveals, and public statements from British Columbia officials on infrastructure or tax policy. Nashville's group has already purchased land near the city's downtown core. Vancouver has not.

The takeaway
Vancouver formalizes MLB expansion bid with local developer, but lacks disclosed ownership, site, or public funding—Nashville remains ahead.

Your next customer won't visit your website. Their AI will.
AI assistants have quietly taken over the first step of buying — they answer from catalogs they can read and shortlist whoever can actually ship. Two questions now decide whether you exist to that buyer: can a machine read your catalog, and can you fulfill the order. Most brands fail one or both and never find out why the orders went elsewhere. The winners of this shift aren't the loudest. They're the most readable. Build for the machine that's about to do the shopping.

Built by the craft floor — apparel, media, packaging, and secure print.
This trade runs on hands, not desks. Imprint manufacturing & Komori Press · Canon high-speed secure-media operations is a craft floor — genuine Six Sigma discipline applied to ink, thread, foil, and registration, where a hundredth of an inch is the difference between a brand that reads serious and one that reads cheap. POPS4 is built by exactly those operators: independent, boots-on-the-ground engineers who carry their own book, read a client in microseconds, and put their name on every run. Beyond our own Virginia Beach floor, we work with a vetted network of craft manufacturers across the US — each meeting the highest excellence in QC standards in the industry, each a specialist in its own discipline — so apparel, hard-goods imprinting, media manufacturing, packaging, and secure printing all go to the bench built for them, coordinated from one accountable hub.
